Brief synopsis in English: A film based on an idea and script of the General Director of ERT3 Kostas Bliatkas. Investigation journalist: Marni Chatziemmanouil Directing: Voula Kostaki. In 2012 Thessaloniki celebrated the centenary of its liberation. ERT3 called the audience to action by asking them to send in material from their past which contributes in telling the history of Thessaloniki.
The response was unexpected! People offered films, photos, personal evidence and other treasures to the journalists who could then make relevant authentic documentaries to be broadcasted throughout the year. The result was a documentary series under the general title “Century of Thessaloniki” dedicated to the commemoration of the city’s liberation. The film is an attempt to give a cross-media approach and demonstrate how a broadcaster – in this case ERT3- could engage its audience around a special event. It also demonstrated how television and the internet are not competitive media and can work symbiotically together.
